Meet our Early Stage Researchers: Emanuele Palma from Tampere University of Technology

Tell something about yourself?

My name is Emanuele Palma, from Rome, Italy. I received the Bachelor degree, Laurea in Electronic Engineering in 2014 and the Master’s degree, Laurea Magistrale in Information and Communication Technology Engineering in 2017, from University of Roma Tre. During the Master Degree I studied in Tampere University of Technology during an exchange programme period. I developed a great interest in Image and Multimedia Processing during all my academic career; that is why these topics were the main subjects for both my BSc and MSc Degrees. My main interests are in image and video processing, virtual reality and deep learning. My favorite hobbies are photography, playing videogames and listening to music.

Why did you apply to ImmerSAFE project?

I applied because I sincerely think that this project is a marvellous opportunity to both enhance the skills and knowledge of a single person, and build a community of researchers that can become the foundations of a technologically advanced future society. Plus the idea of continuing my studies in fields that I find challenging, in such a flourishing environment like a European network based both on academic and non-academic entities, was definitely what I was looking for.

What kind of expectations do you have for your research project and network training?

One of my greatest expectations is to create something that will be of help in the future for all people’s lives. To achieve this I expect this project to be challenging and full of practical implementations, not only to grow professionally, but also personally. I expect to be part of a multicultural environment, hotbed for new discoveries and implementations for the next-generation technologies.

Emanuele Palma is based at Tampere University of Technology, and his research project “Compression methods for geometry-enhanced light field images under safety-critical conditions” is linked to Work Package 1.
